9/18/05: Astoria went down to St Barnabas on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-8 in the Junior A Semi-final at Gaelic Park. Barnabas got off to a great start and were 0-5 to 0-1 up after 15 minutes however Astoria settled, came back strong and leveled up the game before half time. Both sides had opportunities early in the second half with Astoria having slightly the upper hand however the crucial score came with 10 minutes to go when Barnabas got a goal and even though Astoria brought it back to a 2 point deficit they could not overcome a determined Barnabas team. A disappointing result but overall a successful season and plenty optimism for next year when they will try and go all the way for the Junior A title.
9/4/05: In the last Quarter Final of the day at Gaelic Park Astoria overcame a fancied Down team on a score line of 2-9 to 0-7 to book a place in the Junior A Semi-finals along with St.Raymonds, Armagh and St. Barnabas. Goals from Damian Ward and Sean Munnelly early in the first half set up the Gaels as they controlled the game from the outset. Astoria will now have to face a very strong St. Barnabas team in the first of the semi-finals on September 18th in Gaelic Park.
8/22/05: Astoria took on Barnabas on Sunday in the final regular season game for both clubs. Both teams had already qualified for the playoffs so there was not a whole lot at stake. The previous Sunday this game had to be abandoned due to the bad weather, a game in which Astoria were leading in and playing well. This time around Barnabas held the upper hand throughout despite a spirited comeback by the Gaels in the second half. It's on to the playoffs with Astoria taking on Down on September 4th in Gaelic Park.
7/12/05: The Gaels continue on their winning ways with another easy win over Rockland in Van Cortland Park on a score line of 2-16 to 1-2. Not much to be learned from this game with Astoria on top in all sectors and able to use their full complement of subs. They now face into the toughest part of their schedule in their last three games which will decide whether they are playoff bound or not.
6/26/05: In very hot and humid conditions at Gaelic Park on Sunday the Gaels had an easy win over Fermanagh/Tyrone on a score line of 3-14 to 0-3. Astoria were missing a number of players for this game but their deep squad insured that they ran out comfortable winners. Next game up is against Rockland on July 12th.
6/1/05: Following back to back victories over Brooklyn and Donegal the Gaels are back in the playoff hunt in the Junior A. In Rockland on Saturday May28th Astoria beat Brooklyn on a score line of 2-11 to 0-2. On Wednesday June 1st in Van Cortland after a hard fought encounter with Donegal the Gaels emerged victorious on a score line of 2-16 to 0-8. There will now be a three week wait until the end of June for the next game against Fermanagh /Tyrone in Gaelic Park.
5/19/05:In their first outing in the Junior A Division this year Astoria went down to a disappointing loss to St. Raymond's in Van Cortland on Thursday last May 19th. They will be looking to rebound quickly with two games coming up in quick succession, the first against Brooklyn on Saturday May 28th followed by a midweek fixture against Donegal on Wednesday June 1st.
